“Breaking Rules,” the second book in M.S. Parker’s “The Scottish Billionaires” series, dives deeper into the complexities of Alec and Lumen’s burgeoning relationship. As they navigate the turbulent waters of love, family, and societal expectations, both characters are tested in ways they never anticipated.

I initially thought “Scottish Billionaires” would feature tales of various wealthy Scots, but to my delight, the series continues the saga of Alec, Lumen, and Evanne. However, not all characters are as endearing, particularly Keli and Harvey Cornelius, whose duplicity and indiscretion breed distrust. While Keli’s abrupt departure might be understandable, her intentions upon returning are murky, especially regarding the need to renegotiate previously agreed terms.

Keli and Harvey emerge as unsavory characters, with one appearing deceitful and the other downright despicable. Their actions cast a shadow over the narrative, raising questions about their true motives. Despite these tensions, the transparency between Alec and Lumen serves as the story’s backbone, enriching their relationship with honesty and leading to a joyful and sensually fulfilling conclusion.

The continuation of Alec and Lumen’s story into Book 2 was a pleasant surprise, adding depth to their relationship and intricacies to the overarching narrative. The book skillfully navigates through the complexities of trust and deceit, culminating in a satisfyingly steamy climax that leaves readers eagerly anticipating the next installment. “Breaking Rules” is a compelling read, marked by its engaging plot and character development, solidifying its status as a must-read in the series.

Alec McCrae, a CEO accustomed to control and order, finds himself at a crossroads when his ex returns, seeking to rekindle their relationship for the sake of their daughter. The unexpected reappearance of his past forces Alec to reconsider what it means to be a family and what he truly wants for his future. His struggle is palpable as he grapples with the idea of giving his daughter the traditional family structure versus pursuing a relationship with Lumen, who has ignited a spark in him that he thought was long lost.

Lumen Browne, a third-grade teacher with a past she’s tried to leave behind, experiences the sting of betrayal and judgment when her former job at a massage parlor is brought to light. Her budding relationship with Alec, which promised so much hope and happiness, suddenly feels like a source of pain and confusion. Lumen’s resilience is tested as she confronts the harsh realities of being involved with a public figure like Alec and the scrutiny that comes with it.

The narrative masterfully explores themes of trust, forgiveness, and the courage to break societal norms. Alec and Lumen’s relationship, while filled with genuine affection and understanding, is not immune to the challenges posed by external forces and their own insecurities. Their journey is a reminder that love requires not just the willingness to embrace joy but also the strength to face adversity.

“Breaking Rules” is a poignant exploration of love’s complexity, highlighting the importance of communication and honesty in overcoming obstacles. M.S. Parker has crafted a compelling narrative that keeps readers invested in Alec and Lumen’s fate, rooting for them to find a way to bridge their worlds together. The book leaves readers eagerly anticipating how these characters will evolve and whether their love can indeed defy the odds stacked against them.

Breaking Rules

Alec: Lumen is amazing. She brings out the playful, relaxed side of me, but fate doesn’t seem to agree we belong together. And now, my ex pops back into my life and wants to make a go of it again so our daughter can have a real family. I’m torn between what’s best for my daughter or following my feelings for Lumen.

Lumen: Just when our relationship was going great, Alec basically blows me off the minute his ex is back in town. He texted that he needs a break while he figures out what’s going on with his family. And to add fuel to the fire, someone told my principal about the massage parlor job I had before I started teaching, like it was something illegal. Who else knew about that job but Alec? I’m crushed. This is why I don’t do relationships.

Third-grade teacher Lumen Browne and multi-billionaire CEO Alec McCrae are an unlikely couple, but they’re willing to defy the odds. As they struggle to fit into each other’s lives, they must decide if they’re willing to fight for their love…or walk away.
