What I Loved About Wretched

Evie is easily my favorite part of the book because female characters are not always allowed to be this unapologetically dangerous. McIntire gives her ambition, grief, ruthlessness, sexuality, and power without requiring that every dark quality eventually be explained away as a misunderstanding.

The chemistry between Evie and Nicholas is another major strength. From their first encounter onward, there is enough tension between them that every later scene feels charged by both attraction and the threat of discovery.
