I must admit, Ruby Dixon took me completely by surprise with this book, and I’m all for it. Claudia’s tale of survival within the confines of Fort Dallas, post-Rift and amidst dragons, was not what I expected, but it was captivating. Then there’s Kael, a formidable golden Drakoni, setting his sights on Claudia as his mate, which adds an intriguing layer to the story.

It was refreshing to delve deeper into the Drakoni lore. While the Ice Home series provides a peek, this book expands our understanding, and it’s left me eager to dive into the next installment.

Initially, I was skeptical. The decisions made by our heroine, like opting to live in an office building instead of a more logical penthouse, seemed odd. And the attempt to rescue Amy from the mayor definitely had room for improvement; a negotiation might have been smarter. This being my introduction to Ruby Dixon’s work, her first-person, slightly humorous narrative style was a new experience for me. Yet, I find myself intrigued and looking forward to how she develops Sasha’s story.

There’s an undeniable charm in Ruby’s storytelling and writing style that’s incredibly addictive. I’m excited to see where this series goes and highly recommend giving it a read.
